Without Mathieu van der Poel, Thibau Nys and Michael Vanthourenhout, Laurens Sweeck revved his engine once again in the sand of Koksijde. Sweeck fought a fierce duel with Tibor del Grosso, but the surprising Dutchman had to pass in the penultimate round. Toon Aerts finished 3rd, X²O leader Eli Iserbyt limited the damage in 6th.

After the cancellation of Michael Vanthourenhout and Mathieu van der Poel in recent days, a DNS also found out the name of Thibau Nys this morning.

Their absence gave the other thoroughbreds an excellent opportunity to shine in Koksijde, but for Niels Vandeputte everything fell into ruin after the first corner.

Vandeputte was eliminated after a fall in which Eli Iserbyt was also slightly hindered. The leader in the rankings would not play a leading role and finished 6th.

At the front, Laurens Sweeck wanted to once again underline his status as a sand specialist. With Tibor del Grosso he got a surprising companion.

The Dutchman even made Sweeck gasp occasionally, but ultimately paid a price for the many corrections in the sand.

He was very charming, but the yo-yo had to bow his head in the penultimate round. A deserved lap of honor awaited “Sandman” Sweeck in the dunes.
