Since Friday, January 3, Canal+ subscribers in theory no longer have access to Disney+, but it should nevertheless be confirmed.
That's it. After a few years of romance, Canal+ and Disney+ officially divorced this Friday, January 3. The first no longer distributes the second after the abrupt end of a partnership which also allowed the encrypted channel to broadcast the American studio's films six months after their theatrical release.
But if, before joining Canal+, you had already been a Disney+ subscriber, you may still be a subscriber without knowing it.
A subscription renewed automatically
In an email sent to Canal+ subscribers, Walt Disney Company explains that “the subscription has expired”, but that, with good grace, the platform is offering an extension “at no additional cost”. Except the devil is in the details.
In fact, if, before linking your Disney+ account to that of Canal+, you had added a payment method that is still valid today (a bank card or a PayPal account), you are automatically upgraded to the Standard offer with advertisements. In other words, you are still subscribed and charged 5.99 euros per month.
According to Tech&Co's findings, billing continues unless you explicitly choose to cancel from your Disney+ account.
On the other hand, if you did not have any registered payment method, automatic renewal will not take place at the end of the 24 hours “offered” by Disney+.
If you decide to stay, you will nevertheless be able to subscribe and benefit from the promotional offer launched on January 3, which allows you to benefit from the Standard plan with advertisements for one year at 1.99 euros per month. This is accessible via your Disney+ account until January 21. So you still have some time to decide whether this offer is worth it.
