Littler becomes Van Gerwen’s challenger
Alexandra Palace will have its dream final on Friday evening between Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler. Last year’s losing finalist will therefore get a second chance after a clear victory against Stephen Bunting.
The English underdog started with an average of 113 in the first set, but still lost it to the prodigy.
It was the beginning of more or less a rematch of the other semi-final. A deserving Bunting made too many mistakes and was chased by the “not-quite-ghost”.
At 4-0 and a 106 average from Littler he looked despondent, but Bunting still clawed back and put himself on the board. However, he missed the opportunity to make it 4-2 and resuscitate the match.
Ice Rabbit Littler took over with a bull finish, his release speaking volumes. The difference in quality was simply too great.
After that adrenaline rush, the tension completely disappeared from the match: 6-1 – just like Van Gerwen – for Littler, who spoiled the audience with some sparkles. Bunting could only look on in admiration.
