The Girondins de Bordeaux have perhaps found a prestigious and unexpected buyer. While the club is currently in receivership and in National 2, Oliver Kahn could become the new owner according to information from our colleagues in South West. Through his representative Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the former president of Olympique de Marseille, the German football legend made his first inquiries in December. And contacts continued with the current owner of the Bordeaux club Gérard Lopez.
Although nothing has yet been done, the project was considered serious enough for the Bordeaux town hall to take an interest in it. Since his departure from Bayern Munich in May 2023, Oliver Kahn has traveled a lot and intends to invest in football, as he confided last summer to the weekly Kicker. The former German international goalkeeper would be the fund aggregator for the new project.
While waiting for this takeover project to take shape (or not), the next legal meeting of the Girondins de Bordeaux will take place at the Commercial Court on January 21. The sustainability of the continuation plan presented by Gérard Lopez will then be judged. The current owner of the club hopes to renew the club's six-month observation period until July 31, during which debts would still be frozen.
