As great as it would be to have Knight and Palmer get back together as soon as possible, it would leave NCIS season 22 feeling rushed. The show made a big deal of Knight’s move to Cam Pendletonand there was even growing anticipation that Palmer would follow her, considering his stance against doing a long-distance love affair. That didn’t happen, as they decided to just go their separate ways. Given the suspense surrounding Knight’s decision and their subsequent breakup, having them get back together so soon would make everything seem rushed.

Since NCIS has committed to their breakup, they have to stay separated for at least a bit more time. CBS already walked back on their past decision by bringing Knight back to the show after she left in the NCIS season 21 finale. It made her choice to leave anticlimactic.
