Will be Riccardo Muti to stand on the podium of the Wiener Philharmoniker on 1 January 2025 and address the enormous audience of the public connected worldwide from more than 100 countries with the usual “Prosit Neujahr”.
The famous Italian conductor – with an amazing career that has taken him to the most important podiums in the world – returns to hold the baton of the Vienna Philharmonic on the strength of a fruitful collaboration and having played an exceptional role for over 50 years in the history of the Vienna Philharmonic, having been an honorary member of the orchestra since 2011. He has helped shape the orchestra’s repertoire and specific sound in a unique way, which makes him the ideal conductor to celebrate with Viennese orchestra professors the anniversary in 2025 of Johann Strauss. For his New Year’s programme, Muti undertook intense preparation which led him to choose a very interesting repertoire, with pieces not frequently performed. In fact, the first performance of the Ferdinand’s waltz di Constanze Geiger, contemporary di Strauss.
2025 also marks the 30th anniversary of Austria’s membership of the European Union, an occasion which will be commemorated with the Transactions, Valzerop. 184 by Josef Strauss.
