A rare and fascinating spectacle occurred in the skies over Austria on New Year’s Eve: Northern Lights, also known as the Northern Lights, appeared in unexpected regions. The shimmering colors in the sky were particularly visible in Carinthia, on the Falkert and on the Rax. This unique phenomenon amazed many observers and made the turn of the year an unforgettable moment. For many it is a natural spectacle that you only see once in your life. “Untypical sight, especially in the mountains and in the north. In addition to the fireworks, there are or were also (at least photographically) the northern lights to be seen,” said the Austrian Storm Center.
Northern lights in Austria
Northern lights – also known as aurora borealis – occur when high-energy particles from the sun hit the Earth’s atmosphere and cause oxygen and nitrogen atoms to glow. The fact that this natural spectacle is visible as far south as Austria is extraordinary.
