With a place officially secured to defend their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship next month, Senegal are gearing themselves up for what could be a golden year in the history of Senegalese football.
Preparations to defend TotalEnergies CAF CHAN title underway
The reigning champions secured their place to this year’s TotalEnergies CAF CHAN set to take place in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with a resounding 3-0 second leg victory over Liberia.
Qualification to this year’s finals sees the west African giants officially qualified for five major CAF Competitions for 2025 being the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN, TotalEnergies CAF U-17 AFCON, TotalEnergies CAF U-20 AFCON, TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON as well as the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025.
Three titles to defend in 2025
Senegal have three titles to defend in 2025. First on the calendar will be their inaugural TotalEnergies CAF CHAN title won in Algiers three years ago.
Their U-17 side takes to the field between 30 March – 19 April where they will be looking at retaining their continental title.
In Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal will be working towards defending their TotalEnergies CAF U-20 AFCON title when the tournament takes place between 26 April – 25 May this year.
The Lionesses of Teranga on the other hand will be looking at emulating their male counterparts with a first ever continental title when they compete at the finals set to take place in Morocco between 5 – 26 July.
Looking to continue setting records
During the period 2022-2023, Senegal established a unique standard in Africa: winning four continental titles in one year.
The Lions of Teranga won their first ever TotalEnergies CAF AFCON title in Cameroon, which was then followed by the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN triumph as well as lifting the U-20 as well as the U-17 continental titles.
While the challenge may be immense with the ever growing standard of African football, the west African giants will be hoping to make history this year by securing all available titles in the 2025 calendar year.
