Parts of Northwest India will witness cold nights as the minimum temperature will continue to fall till January 1, 2025.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted fog and cold conditions over some areas in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir from December 31 to January 1.
The IMD has sounded a yellow alert for Delhi till January 1, 2025 predicting cold day conditions. The minimum temperature on these days will slip to 8°C making the nights colder.
“For the past two days, maximum temperatures were reporting departures in the cold day category but minimum temperatures were above 10°C. Today, cold to severe cold day conditions have been observed over Delhi,” IMD said.
On Monday, the maximum temperature in Delhi was 15°C and the minimum at several places went below 10°C. While Palam logged 8.6°C, Safdarjung recorded 10.3°C. At Lodhi road, the met department recorded 10.6°C. A cold day condition is declared when minimum temperature falls below 10°C.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents to provide shelter to homeless people.
Fresh western disturbance will cause snowfall and rain over the West Himalaya region from January 4, 2025. During this period, rain is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
