Hayato Tsutsumi vs René Alvarado.NAOKI FUKUDA
The undefeated Japanese Hayato Tsutsumi will face the former Nicaraguan world champion René “Gemelo” Alvarado, in a fight that will now be the main event of a card that will take place this Tuesday, December 31, at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo , Japan.
The fight is organized by Shisei Promotions and will be televised on ESPN KO.
Initially, the main fight is scheduled between the super flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the Argentine Fernando “Puma” Martínez, against the former Japanese world champion Kazuto Ioka. But the fight was canceled because the South American fell ill with influenza.
So Tsutsumi will be the star of the day against Alvarado, in a fight scheduled for 12 rounds, at 130 pounds.
At Monday’s weigh-in, Tsutsumi weighed 129.4 pounds, while Alvarado stopped the pendulum at 128.3.
In his last fight last April, Tsutsumi knocked out former Panamanian world champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno in three rounds. However, he arrived overweight and was heavily criticized for not complying with the agreement. He has a 5-0 record, with 2 knockouts.
In the case of Alvarado, he will enter this match with a record of 34-14, with 22 knockouts. Last August, he defeated Ricardo Blandón on points, in a complicated presentation. However, he has just lost six of his last eight fights, so he does not look like a favorite for this Tuesday’s fight.
René, along with his brother Félix, who recently defeated the Argentine Tobías Reyes, prepared well for this fight on Japanese soil. But he is not a favorite, he has lost his powers and will have to row against the current if he hopes to surprise the favorite Tsutsumi.
