Ifrane: Anticipatory measures to face winter weather

Faced with the heavy snowfall announced by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the provincial authorities of Ifrane have put in place a preventive system to ensure the safety of residents and maintain traffic on the main roads.

During a meeting chaired by Abdelali Azmi, provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, an action plan was detailed to manage future bad weather. Key measures include the maintenance and preparation of a fleet consisting of 12 snow plows, 5 snow blowers, 3 mobile cranes, a grader and a backhoe loader. This strategic equipment aims to keep the province’s 800 km of roads open, including 550 km particularly exposed to bad weather.

Oubiji M’Barek, head of the machinery park at the Provincial Directorate of Equipment, stressed that maintenance work began last August to guarantee optimal operating condition of the equipment. The technical teams are therefore ready to intervene quickly to ensure traffic flow and user safety.

According to weather forecasts, snowfall ranging from 10 to 20 cm is expected in the provinces of Ifrane, Chichaoua and Boulemane, while the heights of Midelt, Azilal, Beni Mellal and Tinghir could record accumulations exceeding 40 cm. An intense cold spell is also forecast, with temperatures ranging between -5 and 1°C.
