It almost seems as if Netflix has saved the biggest hits for the end of the year. While “Carry-On” has been generating fabulous numbers for weeks, a series novelty is now putting everything in the shade. As expected, you might say.

“Uglies”, “Der Schacht 2”, “Codename 13”: Netflix once again released numerous in-house productions in 2024, many of which were also streamed diligently. With the Christmas actioner “Carry-On”, a film was released on December 13th exclusively on the platform with the red N, which thanks to its long-running qualities is now on the verge of making it into Netflix’s all-time top 10 in the area advance film. And in the series segment, perhaps the biggest hit of 2024 has been saved for the last days of the year. Or so it seems.

On December 26th, “Squid GameThe biggest series hit in Netflix history finally continues after three years. But have the fans from back then lost interest in a continuation? Or do you binge the new episodes straight away full of anticipation? Well, the latter seems more likely to be the case.

“Squid Game” Season 2 erobert Netflix-Charts

The second season of the South Korean thriller series is currently the measure of all things on Netflix. The figures from the evaluation portal also show this Flixpatrol. Consequently The new “Squid Game” season tops the series charts on Netflix in a total of 92 countries.

Conversely, this means that only one of the 93 in total Flixpatrol countries taken into account are out of line – and only minimally. In New Zealand it is at least enough for second place (behind “La Palma”). However, we can well imagine that “Squid Game” will climb to the top here over the course of the weekend.

Are the new episodes worth it?

Due to the gigantic hype surrounding the first season of “Squid Game” and the extra-long wait for supplies, expectations of the new episodes have increased immeasurably in many places. But can series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk actually do it justice? We think: Yes!

Our series expert Markus Trutt has Season 2 already seen it in advance and is definitely impressed by the sequel. His conclusion:

The second “Squid Game” season essentially relies on similar ingredients to the first, but also offers enough new things to continue the story so consistently and breathlessly that the seven episodes fly by. After this strong retelling, we can hardly wait for the finale of the series next year.
