Lazio vs Atalanta
Neither losers nor winners. The Scudetto match at the Olimpico between Lazio and Atalanta ends with a draw which does not launch either of them into orbit, but which allows both to remain anchored to their dreams of glory: the Nerazzurri from Bergamo remain at the top of the table at +3 on Napoli who has yet to play with Venezia; while Lazio is in the Champions League zone, a goal that at the beginning of the year few would have even dared to imagine in the area of Formello. Brescianini responded to Dele-Bashiru’s goal, served by Rovella in the first half, and in full injury time took advantage of an assist from Lookman to set the final score at 1-1. Lazio started better with Castellanos who immediately demonstrated that he was in the mood for the evening. His first shot ends up high, then it is Carnesecchi who denies the Argentine joy first with his hands, then with his right foot. As the action progressed, the ball fell to Guendouzi who stopped and kicked: he found the post which increased the regrets at Lazio.

Atalanta doesn’t look like the usual one; the Biancocelesti manage to find the pitch and blast the Dea rearguard with a deep ball from Rovella to Dele-Bashiru. The Nigerian, once alone in front of Carnesecchi, cannot make a mistake by hitting with his right foot and thus putting Lazio ahead. The goal conceded did not wake up Gasperini’s team who only made themselves noticed with a conclusion from Zappacosta, wide, and a cross into the area which Djimsiti, after a deflection from Pasalic, missed due to a matter of centimetres. Too little to worry an almost perfect Lazio who deservedly lead at the break. At half-time Gasperini understands that, to find the usual Atalanta again, he must come from the bench by inserting Cuadrado and Kossonou for Zappacosta and Hien, while Baroni confirms the eleven that closed the first half as a whole. And it is the Colombian Atalanta who has the right opportunity to equalize, but his header ends up just wide.

The second half, however, is another Atalanta. Lookman scares Lazio three times, first with his head, then calling Provedel to save in the corner and finally with a right-footed shot from the edge that misses the target. The script of the match is now written, Atalanta playing the game and Lazio restarting taking advantage of the spaces that their opponents inevitably leave. And right on the counterattacks Baroni’s team could close it out, but first Dia sensationally clears a stone’s throw from Carnesecchi’s goal, then he has the shot saved by the Nerazzurri goalkeeper. But the most sensational opportunity of the entire second half still happens to the Nerazzurri who, from close range, hit first Pellegrini and then the post. When it all seems over, however, here is the flash that gives Atalanta the equalizer with Zaniolo picking out Lookman, kept in play by the Lazio defense. For the attacker it’s child’s play to serve Brescianini who only has to deposit it into the net for the 1-1 which sets the score. A draw, the one between Lazio and Atalanta, which is of no use to either of them to take flight, but which is useful to both of them to continue dreaming.
