From January 1, 2025, you will need to have a Crit'Air sticker to be authorized to travel in the Rennes intra-ring zone. The Crit’Air sticker? An air quality certificate which allows vehicles to be classified according to their polluting emissions of fine particles and nitrogen oxides.
It becomes compulsory from the start of 2025 in the two Breton metropolises due to the establishment of the Low Emission Zone (ZFE). Objective: to ban the most polluting cars from circulation in order to improve air quality and, ultimately, better protect the health of the inhabitants of the Breton capital.
Requests on the website of the Ministry of Ecological Transition
To obtain it, you must go to the website of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion. Once on the site, simply enter the vehicle registration number, the date of its first registration, and the sticker will be sent to the address appearing on the vehicle's registration document. It will cost you 3.77 euros per vehicle. It is possible to register up to 50 vehicles in a single request. Individuals can therefore make a single request for all vehicles in the household.
As a reminder, Crit'Air stickers are classified from 0 to 5. The lower the number, the more environmentally friendly the vehicle. The Crit'Air 0 sticker thus corresponds to 100% electric or hydrogen vehicles, the Crit'Air 5 to diesel cars registered between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 2000, in particular. The latter will be prohibited in the Rennes ZFE from January 1, 2027. As of January 1, 2025, they will therefore still be able to drive in the intra-ring zone.
Those who will no longer be able to do so are those who are not eligible to obtain the Crit'Air sticker. For cars (all engines combined), this corresponds to registration before December 31, 1996. In total, 3,500 vehicles will be impacted in Rennes, or 1.2% of the registered fleet.
