There you are as the goalkeeper of Anderlecht. If you don’t take care of the build-up yourself, you will get three goals because your teammates simply give the ball away. Colin Coosemans was in trouble after the loss against Dender.
With a 2-1 lead, there seemed to be no problem for Anderlecht after the first half against Dender. The Purple & White even created opportunities to extend the score to 3-1, but things turned out differently. A weak second half resulted in a painful 2-3 defeat. “Whether we were arrogant? I didn’t think so,” goalkeeper Colin Coosemans responded afterwards.
According to Coosemans, there was no underestimation. “We knew that Dender could be dangerous on stationary phases and in transition. We owe it to our position to win such games,” he stated. Yet things went wrong: “We were not consistent enough. There were too many peaks and valleys in our game, and we came out of the dressing room too weak after the break. We paid that in cash.”
The defeat means that Anderlecht goes into the winter break with a painful 0 out of 6. “That really hurts,” said Coosemans. “We wanted to finish on a high note and stay as close to the teams above us as possible. But this is a hard lesson. At the end of 2024 we will be back with both feet on the ground.”
Yet there were also bright spots, such as the return of Thorgan Hazard and the return of Jan Vertonghen to the bench. “That is important for us,” the goalkeeper emphasized. “If we want to compete on three fronts until the end of the season, we will need everyone.”
The goalkeeper acknowledges that Anderlecht has to work hard in the coming weeks. “We now know where we have to work. It’s all about details, but they make the difference at crucial moments,” Coosemans concluded.
