the essential
According to The Telegraph, Asma al-Assad, Bashar's wife, is seriously ill and suffering from leukemia. Her state of health has worsened in recent days and she only has a 50% chance of continuing to live.

Is Bashar al-Assad's wife dying? Exiled, with her husband and children, in Russia, since the fall of her husband's regime in Syria, Asma al-Assad has serious health problems according to The Telegraph. She suffered from leukemia and doctors gave her a “50/50” (i.e. 50%) chance of survival. “Asma is dying,” summarizes a relative, quoted by our Anglo-Saxon colleagues.

The British wife of the former Syrian president is now isolated in Moscow, kept away from her loved ones in order to avoid any contamination. To try to save her, her father, Fawaz Akhras, a cardiologist from London, is at her side in the Russian capital. The latter would be “heartbroken”, says the English daily, citing sources in direct contact with his family.

She had already recovered from cancer in 2019

Insistent rumors in recent days reveal that Asma al-Assad is seeking to leave Moscow for London and thus undergo treatment to combat her illness. Which is not to the taste of British leaders, David Lammy in the lead. The Minister of Foreign Affairs had declared that she “is not welcome here”. Before adding that he would do “everything in his power” to ensure that no member of the Assad family “finds a place in the United Kingdom.”

Still, this information comes at a time when the rag seems to be burning within the exiled couple. Asma al-Assad would simply like to divorce and would have confided that she was having a hard time living in exile in Russia. The former first lady of Syria, who had already had to fight against the disease years ago – she announced that she was completely cured of breast cancer after a year of treatment in 2019 –, “cannot not be in the same room as anyone else because of his state of health,” close sources said.
