He flew over a bump before bouncing violently on the track, then ending his race in the tarpaulins and protective nets after a long slide.

Cyprien Sarrazin, victim of a violent fall during training this Friday, December 27 in Bormio in Italy, suffers from a “subdural hematoma” and is hospitalized “in neurological intensive care for the moment”, announced the French Ski Federation .

Sarrazin, world No.2 in downhill last winter, fell heavily on Friday at midday during the second training session on the Stelvio, the track where the men's downhill for the 2026 Olympic Games will take place in thirteen months.

The 30-year-old skier, best time in the first training session the day before, lost control of his skis in the final while he was in the lead at all the intermediates. He literally flew over a bump and then bounced violently on the track, before ending his race in the tarpaulins and protective nets after a long slide. After 20 minutes, he was evacuated by helicopter.

Other skiers denounced the state of the track, “very icy, with very dark portions in terms of visibility”, according to Swiss Justin Murisier. “One year away from organizing the Olympic Games, doing a track like that, they don’t deserve to have the Olympic Games here,” lamented Frenchman Nils Allègre.
