Near the Cité de l’espace, in Toulouse, a shantytown has been set up in the parking lot of an office building. Residents complain about the dirt, the noise, and more generally denounce this vast area of unsanitary housing.
Noise, piles of rubbish, wild fires… The installation of dozens of people in a parking lot, not far from the Cité de l’Espace in Toulouse, is causing a lot of talk, reveals The Dispatch.
Nuisances
“It’s really very, very dirty and you can often hear shouting, loud music, they’re making fires in the parking lot.”testifies a local resident to our colleagues.
The entrance to the residence’s parking lot is blocked. From the outside, small makeshift huts are visible. According to Allô Toulouse – the metropolitan service dedicated to incivility, roads and cleanliness – a procedure is underway.
But the time is long for the residents who say they are victims of nuisance, and for the surrounding businesses which welcome the public.
Illegal occupation
Since the premises which notably housed the Haute-Garonne hunting federation have been empty, illegal occupants have moved in: “Quickly people were squatting.”
More “if they settled there, it’s because they didn’t really have a choice”, analyzes a passerby interviewed by our colleagues. The squatters did not speak out.
The prefecture indicates that the owner has not yet taken legal action to evict the squatters.
