In terms of team compositions, Wouter Vrancken made one change and started Surdez in place of Hjulsager. On the Brussels side, Sykes and Leysen compensated for the defensive absences and Castro-Montes found a place on the flank while Niang slipped to the bench.
A timid start to the match before the turning point of the match
Move around, there’s nothing to see: that was the description that best suited the start of the match where the two teams were content to observe each other. Boufal was one of the dynamiters of the part but, like the other actors, showed waste at the conclusion.
To be served with opportunities, you had to wait until the 25th minute. First, Ivanovic followed a ball from Promise but ran into Roef. And on the reconversion, Brown was put into orbit on the left flank and Moris imitated his Ghent counterpart. The match was getting heated and Sykes mishandled a ball by clearing it on Gandelman’s arm. The Ghent attacking midfielder then finished the action but saw his goal canceled after the intervention of the VAR. In the process, Promise was thrown on the edge of offside by Ivanovic and went to deceive Roef for the opener (0-1, 33′).
Return to a false rhythm with a Ghent team which had taken a blow to the head since the opening score. In the ranks of the USG, it was not the best version either even if one could not fault a certain commitment and almost maximum efficiency. The score was therefore 0-1 at rest.
The Union killed the match in 2 minutes
Tile for the Union: Bouffal, injured, had to give up his place to El Hadj to resume the match while Gudjonshen took Dean’s place in the opposite camp. The former Genko player stood out with a superb feint which led to Ivanovic almost opening the score. It was only a postponement since on the following corner, Sykes took advantage of an error from Roef to make the break (0-2, 52′). It wasn’t over yet as El Hadj, who got into the game brilliantly at the break, also stood out by perfectly taking back a cross from Sadiki for the third goal (0-3, 54′).
There was only one left for the residents of Duden who transformed this match into humiliation, notably with two huge chances for Castro-Montes including a post. However, it was Ghent who managed to reduce the gap with a sumptuous cross from Brown and a finish from the outside of Gudjohnsen’s foot which was just as impressive (1-3, 60′).
This did not break the dynamic of the Union which continued to control the debates and we wondered, with a quarter of an hour to go, how the trend could be reversed in this duel. And it was even a model in terms of management that the Moris gang offered us to validate this success.
A new victory which allows the Saint-Gillois to overtake their evening opponent and offer themselves a 13th match without defeat to close 2024.

Unionist victory in Ghent!
Mr. Laforge whistles the end of this meeting and ratifies this Saint-Gilles success, 1-3. The match was intense on both sides, but the Union emerged thanks to greater realism and greater solidity than Ghent. In the standings, the Union did the right thing and beat their evening opponent. Sébastien Pocognoli’s players are now fifth with 31 points. On the Ghent side, the team occupies sixth place with 30 points and sees Charleroi just behind, with 27 points.
90′ – Four additional minutes
The fourth official indicates that there will be four extra minutes in this match.
85′ – New change at the Union
Ivanovic leaves the field and is replaced by the very young Kamiel Van De Perre.
83′ – The Buffalos are getting closer to the target
Ghent pushes, but fails to alert Moris. Dangerous situations are increasing, but there is always a slight lack of technical accuracy. The Union mastered this end of the match and did not seem to panic.
