In the early hours of Tuesday, a fire broke out in a building on David Yellin Street in the Nahlaot neighborhood of Jerusalem.
The fire broke out in the dormitory of a religious school for women in Jerusalem and hospitalized 38 people, including three in critical condition. According to Magen David Adom emergency services, the three victims, in critical condition, are between 18 and 25 years old.
Firefighters managed to evacuate more than three dozen students from the seminary, while others, accompanied by a security guard, entered the building to save lives.
In addition to the three seriously injured people, two men, aged 18 and 32, were treated for moderately serious injuries and 33 other people showed symptoms of smoke inhalation and are now out of danger.
Shmulik Friedman, commander of the Jerusalem Fire and Rescue Services, explained that they received “the report of the fire early in the morning and we mobilized 12 fire crews to put out the fire that started in the upper floor of the building. »
Authorities say the fire started in an electrical cabinet, and it remains unclear whether the building's sprinkler system worked properly. They will therefore continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
