Anderlecht knows what losing is again. For the first time since October 27, the Purple & White suffered another defeat. That was also the deserved result against leader Racing Genk. Tolu gave the Limburgers the lead just before the half hour mark, after which top talent Karetsas secured a 9th home win in a row. Genk puts Anderlecht on 8 points again.

Racing Genk – Anderlecht in a nutshell:

  1. Key moment

Although Anderlecht can hardly pose any danger, it remains exciting for Genk with a narrow 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes before the end, that tension disappears when Karetsas makes it 2-0 for Genk with his first goal.

  2. Man of the match

He almost played for the Purple & White, but Tolu ultimately chose Genk and they have already had a lot of fun with that in Limburg. The attacker was also very strong today. He won almost all matches, broke the spell with the opening goal and provided the assist for the 2-0.

  3. Remarkable

Racing Genk has further emphasized its strong home reputation. On the opening match day they dropped two points at home against Standard, but then 9 home wins in a row followed. A club record.

  4. Statistics

It has been since February 7, 2021 since Anderlecht could win again on Genk soil. Racing Genk has now been undefeated against the Purple & White for seven matches in a row (including one cup match).

Tolu scores and lets score

In a top match in which Anderlecht never claimed a three-pointer, the decision came twenty minutes before the end. Launched by Bangoura, Tolu took off and Karetsas alone in front of goal made it 2-0.

A more than deserved lead for KRC Genk, which also started the match best. After just a few minutes, Coosemans had to distinguish himself with an open opportunity for Tolu.

Around half an hour it was a hit for the Genk striker. Edozie was too easily fooled by El Ouahdi and Tolu scored his eleventh of the season on his cross.

An offensively underpowered Anderlecht could only really threaten once with a shot from Edozie, but Van Crombrugge was alert. This also applied to Coosemans, who kept the visitors afloat again when El Ouahdi appeared alone in front of him.

Anderlecht can't pull a punch

In addition to Tolu, Karetsas was the standout player at Genk. Shortly after half-time he forced Coosemans to make another excellent save with a beautiful free kick. Moments later he took the Anderlecht goalkeeper, but his goal was rightly disallowed for offside.

Anderlecht could hardly create any danger on goal. Only Edozie, a scarce bright spot for the visitors, put Van Crombrugge to work again with a dangerous long shot.

Genk easily stayed upright and Karetsas removed the last doubts with the 2-0. Genk thus records its 9th home win in a row and that is a club record. Anderlecht are once again biting the dust after eleven games without defeat.

End

Racing Genk takes victory again after the loss against Club Brugge. The league leader was clearly better than a weak Anderlecht and recorded his 9th home win in a row, a club record. Tolu was the match winner, he opened the scoring in the first half and put Karetsas on his way to the 2-0 after half-time. For Anderlecht it is the first defeat since the end of October.

Cracked shot Dolberg

Dolberg can finally assert himself. In a duel with Cuesta he can decide while falling, but his cracked shot bounces wide.

An additional 4 minutes will be added.

Record at your fingertips

The four extra minutes have started, but they won't change much. Genk is on its way to a record: winning 9 home games in a row.

Tolu is applauded

All efforts are going well for Tolu, who scored a goal and an assist today. He is relieved by Oh. Sattlberger can also participate for a while, he takes Bangoura's place.

Angulo immediately shows up. The substitute cuts to his left in the box and aims for the far corner, but his shot goes wide.

Angulo can complete the final phase at Anderlecht. Edozie, the most threatening man in the purple and white, is taken to the side.

18 Genk goal attempts

Genk's hunger has not yet been satisfied. Steuckers takes his chance with a shot from just outside the box, his attempt doesn't go all that far wide. Genk now has 18 goal attempts, Andelrecht has barely 4.

Tolu just not

Anderlecht escapes a third goal. Tolu beat Simic and Zanka to a cross from Hrosovsky, but just couldn't get his header in the right direction. The striker is a bit too strong for the Anderlecht defense today.

Double change

Hubert intervenes with two fresh forces. Rits and N'Diaye are brought into the side for Vazquez and Augustinsson.
