RB Leipzig loses 1:5 at FC Bayern. Shortly before the final whistle, national player Henrichs was injured. He is threatened with an early end to the season. However, his coach has completely different worries that evening. The attack in Magdeburg stunned the Saxons.

National soccer player Benjamin Henrichs from RB Leipzig was seriously injured in the 1:5 defeat against Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern Munich and is in danger of being out for the rest of the season. Leipzig's assistant coach Alexander Zickler spoke of the suspicion of a ruptured Achilles tendon in the 27-year-old, who got stuck in the grass shortly before the end and fell to the ground without any influence from the opponent.

When referee Daniel Siebert blew the whistle for the Bundesliga game after a few minutes of added time, Henrichs was treated on the pitch for a long time. He was later taken away on a stretcher. If the suspicion is confirmed, Henrichs would be out for a few months and would also not be considered for the next international matches against Italy in March. Henrichs has been on the pitch in all 15 of Saxony's Bundesliga games so far.

Coach Marco Rose did not want to comment specifically on Henrichs after the game. The Leipzig native, visibly shocked by the events in Magdeburg, only replied briefly to DAZN. “Do we even want to talk about football today?” he said. “There are a few other things in life that put everything in a different light. But yes: Benny may have a serious ankle injury,” Rose explained. After that, the interview was over quickly and the broadcast about the Bundesliga game ended early.

FC Bayern Munich foregoes ceremony

FC Bayern had previously canceled its planned ceremony in the stadium. “We imagined me standing here completely differently,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen after Munich’s 5-1 win in the Bundesliga against RB Leipzig. The background for the change in plans was the “horrible” attack in Magdeburg.

“That’s why we decided at very short notice to forego our Christmas ceremony,” said Dreesen. There was applause for the decision from the stadium, which was filled with 75,000 spectators. “This ceremony should be a happy one, it just doesn't fit this moment,” said Dreesen. He asked the audience to rise from their seats and remember the victims and families.

A car drove into a group of people at the Christmas market in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt early in the evening. According to official information, at least two people were killed and more than 50 were injured.
