In 2025, the grants granted to the royal family will be indexed. Here's how much money our crowned heads will receive.
Like many Belgians, the income of the royal family will be indexed in 2025, report our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws.
King Philippe's endowment will increase by nearly 300,000 euros compared to this year. With an increase of exactly 298,000 euros, the sovereign will see his endowment pass the threshold of 15 million euros for the first time to reach 15,194,000 euros.
With this sum, the king must pay part of his staff, organize activities and pay energy bills. Queen Mathilde does not receive a separate allowance.
Justify expenses, except for the King
If the king in office must not be held accountable for his expenses, the same cannot be said for others.
The former sovereign, Albert II, who spends most of his time in the South of France, will also see his endowment increase by 24,000 euros, to reach the amount of 1,189,000 euros in 2025.
As for Astrid and Laurent, they receive approximately the same amount and will benefit from an increase of 9,000 euros to bring their endowment to 400,000 euros.
For the three of them, their endowment consists of a salary and an expense allowance. To account for this salary, they must prepare an activity report, in which they list all their activities for the year.
The exceptions
The heir to the throne, Princess Elisabeth, has been entitled to an endowment since her 18th birthday, but as long as she is studying, she will not claim it. The earliest it could start to affect her is 2026 when she finishes her studies at Harvard University and begins working in full-time official capacity.
Furthermore, Princess Delphine does not receive an endowment because she does not play a full role in the royal family. She earns her living through her activity as an artist.
