About ten years ago, Steven Soderbergh announced his retirement after the release of My life with Liberace (2013). Since then, he has released a plethora of feature films (even if they were not screened in France). The instigator of the spy saga Ocean’s therefore does not seem ready to let go of the camera. He is now returning to action comedy in his new work: Black Bag. The trailer has just been revealed, we discover that the protagonists are none other than a couple of spies formed by Cate Blanchett et Michael Fassbender. The setting is set in an English capital, where the union of these two beings finds itself jeopardized by lies.

The year 2025 will therefore be that of a reunion with the seventh art for Steven Soderbergh : first of all with Presence, a horror film with Lucy Liu which will be released on February 5 in French theaters. Then, it is with a big action film that American filmmaker plans to impress his audience. Echoing Mr et Mrs. Smithled by the legendary duo Angelina Jolie et Brad Pitt, Black Bag highlights the dynamic of two agents working in the state intelligence service, who share their professional and personal lives as best they can. For the scenario, Soderbergh find David Koepp, author of several blockbusters likeIndiana Jones and the Clock of Destiny (2023).
On the casting side, he chose two emblematic headliners of Hollywood cinema: Cate Blanchett et Michael Fassbender. Together, they will step into the shoes of a couple of spies in danger. The plot begins when Kathryn’s character finds herself accused of betraying her country. A difficult dilemma therefore presents itself to George, his companion, who does not know if he can trust his partner in all circumstances. In the trailer, we savor the thrilling tone of the film, halfway between a drama and a spy thriller. Other familiar faces also appear on the screen: starting with Regé-Jean Pagenoticed in the first season of Bridgerton Chroniclesbut also Marisa Abel or even Pierce Brosnan.
