Météo France services have placed Corsica on orange alert for the wind phenomenon. A wind which was supposed to blow very strongly on Cap Corse, in Balagne, in the Ajaccian region and in Bonifacio. A wind which rose yesterday evening around 9 p.m. where strong gusts were recorded in Cortenais. But snow has also arrived and the two departments are also on orange alert for storms, snow, ice, avalanches, wind and submersion waves.
The snow covered the main passes of the island to the point that the passes of Vizzavona, Vergio, Verde, Vaccia Saint Euèstacxhe, Sorba and even Bavella went into yellow alert. This means that articulated vehicles are prohibited from driving and that special equipment is mandatory for all other vehicles.
Snow removal operations are underway and so far no major difficulties have been reported by officials from the roads department of the Corsican Community.
Further snowfall is expected during the day and the rain-snow limit is expected to rise to 900 meters during the afternoon.
Better weather is expected tomorrow after a cloudy morning, the sun should return at midday.
The greatest caution is recommended. Before hitting the road, it is advisable to call the Corte snow office at 04.95.46.17.12.
