The Christmas holidays are fast approaching, and one question is on everyone’s lips: will there be snow in Auvergne for the end-of-year celebrations? If you’re hoping for a Christmas under a pretty white coat, you’ll probably be in luck according to Météo France. The first snowfalls will begin this weekend and will continue during the week, particularly on the hills. Here is the weather forecast for the coming days.
The weekend of December 21 will mark a first snowy episode in Auvergne. “From the night of Friday 20 to Saturday 21, a rain disturbance will cross the region, bringing light precipitation.specifies Météo France. However, snow is expected to appear on the highest peaks, particularly above 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level. “Saturday, although the sky remains overcast and light precipitation persists, clearings will be possible in the afternoon”, continues Météo France.
From Saturday night to Sunday, a new disturbance arrives, bringing some light precipitation across the entire region. The Météo France forecaster indicates: “Snow will be particularly present in mid-altitude reliefs, with a rain-snow limit which will go down to 600 meters. Temperatures will remain relatively mild in the morning, between 8 and 10°C in the plains, but will begin to drop at the end of the afternoon”.
Monday December 23, “the rain-snow limit will remain around 600 meters above sea level”with a few additional flakes on the reliefs. Snow will affect the Sancy massifs, the Bourbonnaise mountain, Combrailles, Margeride in Haute-Loire, and Livradois-Forez, according to Météo France. “Temperatures will drop, with morning frosts in the plains and temperatures close to 0°C. Christmas Eve, December 24, could still offer some residual flakes, especially on the reliefs”. Dry weather and cool temperatures will be on the cards for the following days, particularly Wednesday December 25.
