Virgin River Season 6 was filled with twists and turns for Preacher and Paige’s murder case, and while the trial seemed to end in Preacher’s favor, the same couldn’t be said about Paige, who may be out of her luck — and a spot on Netflix’s top-rated show.

Does Preacher go to jail in Virgin River?

Virgin River Season 6 immediately picked up after the events of Season 5, which saw John “Preacher” Middleton get arrested for his connection to the murder of Wes Logan, the abusive ex-husband of Preacher’s ex-girlfriend, Paige Lassiter, who killed Wes in the Season 5 finale. Though Preacher wasn’t the one who killed Wes, he did help Paige dispose of the body, which led the police to theorize that he was the person who committed the murder.

After a long trial full of drama — including Preacher’s best friend, Jack Sheridan, taking the stand to testify against him — Preacher, in the end, didn’t go to jail and got off with nothing more than a misdemeanor. Instead of going to jail, Preacher was convicted of disposing of human remains and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service.

Does Paige go to jail in Virgin River?

While Preacher was able to make it out of the trial scot-free, not the same could be said about Paige, whose fate was left up in the air as the season ended. Though Preacher did his best to protect his ex, the season concluded with the jury split on whether Wes’ death was an accident or if Paige intentionally killed him.

Though Virgin River didn’t reveal what happened to Paige in the end, the series’ showrunner, Patrick Sean Smith, confirmed to Insider after Season 6’s release that there are “no plans” to see Paige again after the most recent season. Smith also confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that there was also no plan for Paige and Preacher — who sparks a romance with newcomer Kaia — to get back together, with the trial serving as a means to officially end their relationship.

“I wanted to move past Paige and Preacher. This was the last vestige and loose thread from their relationship,” he said. “So I was interested in this gesture of Preacher protecting her and sacrificing himself where he had been so much her protector and savior from the beginning of this series. By extension, him laying himself on the line for her and [encouraging] her absence to protect her felt like a good way to wrap that up.”

So where does that leave Paige? Well, with Paige not returning to Virgin River for Season 6, it’s entirely possible for her to go to jail as a way for the series to write her out of Preacher’s life for good officially. That would be the most logical step. Though, if Virgin River wanted to give Paige a happy ending for everything she’s been through, it’s also possible for her to walk away a free woman, and, in turn, start a new life without Wes — and Preacher. However Virgin River decides to write Paige off, it’s clear that we won’t be seeing her again.
