New York Knicks Karl-Anthony Towns gave the Minnesota Timberwolves 10 years of his life, and during his time with the franchise, he built powerful relationships. Towns built one of the bonds with Timberwolves backup center Naz Reid. Towns’ former teammate praised the Knicks star.
Towns and Reid played 209 games together as teammates in Minnesota. However, their bond extends beyond their time on the basketball court. Reid recently spoke to the media ahead of the Knicks’ Thursday evening matchup against the Timberwolves on TNT. During the media availability, Reid revealed his close relationship with Towns.
“Probably super emotional…I’ll be right there with him…We still compete against each other, but that’s still my brother,” Reid said.
Reid said they are from the same area in New Jersey and knew each other before the NBA. In addition to understanding what it’s like to grow up in New Jersey, Reid spoke to the high character of Towns.
“Unselfish is the biggest word to describe him…Always there for you…Helped me shape the guy I am today,” Reid said.
Minnesota traded Towns after making the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2004. However, due to CBA implications, the Timberwolves sacrificed the player who had grown with the organization and the city of Minnesota.
The Knicks understand the character and player they have in Towns. Towns leads the NBA in rebounds, playing above his defensive expectations, and still performs at a high level on offense.
Reid referred to Towns’ selfless nature, which appeared early in his Knicks tenure when he openly accepted Jalen Brunson as the team captain. But more importantly, Towns realizes he must take the games by the horns when his all-star point guard requires it, which showcases his reputation as a great teammate.
Expect the Minnesota crowd to extend their appreciation for Towns on Thursday.
