Dahpne Agten, Timon Verbeeck or Aster Nzeyimana? The finale of the 22nd season of The Smartest Person in the World was broadcast on Thursday evening, but while that question was on people’s minds at home, the red carpet was rolled out at Play Zuid in Antwerp. The BVs put on their most glamorous outfits.
The evening started festively with a red carpet for Play Zuid in Antwerp. In front of the door was the famous sports car from this season’s launch campaign of The Smartest Person in the World. A reception with walking dinner and bubbles awaits the candidates.
Kiss for the winner
Lize Feryn and finalist Aster Nzeyimana should not be missed on this gala evening. The two look very chic in their own outfit: Mélange. “I wanted to wear something special for this gala evening,” says Lize Feryn. “Only three of this piece were made in our collection. So it is unique.” When asked if Lize is nervous for her partner, she answers decisively: “No, not really. It was nerve-wracking as a supporter during the recordings. I have to say that I really died at the end. But I gave Aster a kiss every time before the recordings, hopefully that helped.” (Read more below the photo)
Acceleration process
Of course, quizmaster Erik Van Looy will also be present. He has once again put on a special costume for the occasion. “This time I wore a print especially for the Olympic Games,” Erik says proudly. “It’s a gala evening, so I’ll do my best.” How candidates rise above themselves through The Smartest Person is something inherent to the springboard that the program is. This is evident again this year with talents such as Daphne Agten and Mohsin Abbas. “That is their own merit,” Erik says clearly. “We only encourage and accelerate what would have happened anyway. Candidates who join us would have become known for their talent anyway. We only speed up the process. You see this, for example, with Bart De Wever in the past, who also used The Smartest Man as a springboard. But he would have become famous anyway. That is also the case with the talents this year.” (Read more below the photo)
Record holder
Record holder Daphne Agten looks radiant again. Her outfits were a topic of conversation after every episode. Matched with hairdo, Daphne was stylish from head to toe in every episode. She also looks stunning tonight in a red dress and red tiara. “I have my grandmother’s old beauty case at home,” says Daphne. “I neatly put all my hair accessories in there. Although I must say that it is now gradually coming apart at the seams.” (Read more below the photo)
The Smartest Person Effect
Comedian Mohsin Abbas shines in a costume with tracksuit accents. At his side, his wife Romy shines in silver sequins. “Do I regret not being one of those finalists? No, I am very happy with the course I have been able to complete so far. I have met so many beautiful people. We all just went out for a bite to eat and will go out together later. It will be a wonderful evening,” said Mohsin Abbas. “It is true that I have now quit my job. That was a while ago. But I never dared to dream that this adventure would take such a turn.” (Read more below the photo)
Passing the torch
Former winner Guga Baul is also present. Tonight he will pass on his title as Smartest Person to the next winner. “I don’t mind handing it over at all,” says Guga. “I don’t really deal with that in daily life. Although I must say that the certificate is next to my bed. The intention was to hang it up one day, but look, that never happened. And so I kept looking at it. But after 365 days of enjoying the title, it’s been enough.”
