TF1 is broadcasting “Love Actually”, a classic Christmas film, this evening, but if you pause at the right time, you will see a little detail that you probably missed.

Love Actually is one of the most popular Christmas films. Rated 3.8 out of 5 on AlloCiné, it is one of the timeless classics of the period which, despite the passage of time and certain problems recently noted, remains very appreciated by the public.

A fake Barbie?

This romantic comedy specially designed for the holidays is directed by Richard Curtis (4 Weddings and 1 Funeral) with an ensemble cast composed of Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy, Laura Linney, Colin Firth, Martine McCutcheon, Liam Neeson, Joanna Page, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, Martin Freeman and Keira Knightley.

And in addition to having this little touch of Christmas magic which wraps the multiple intrigues in a delicious gift, a small detail had perhaps escaped even fans of the film, because the moment in which he appears passes very quickly. ‘picture.

The scene takes place between Karen (Emma Thompson) and Harry (Alan Rickman). The latter sits, painting kits for young children in his hands, while Karen hangs up with her brother, the Prime Minister played by Hugh Grant. The discussion turns to the singer Joni Mitchell, whom Harry hates and whom Karen put on in the background while she prepares Christmas presents.

She then grabs two dolls that she intends to give away, clearly inspired by the Mattel brand, one of which she describes as “sado-masochistic”, and the other as a “drag queen”. The first dressed in leather and chains, the second is covered in a pink skirt suit and a boa on her shoulders, with an exaggeratedly high cut on her head. And if they are indeed two Mattel dolls, we can see that the one held in his left hand is in fact a disguised Ken and not a Barbie!

A little tip from the film’s prop team, who obviously had fun inventing these dolls which are clearly not part of the official range of the famous Barbie!
