After the Copacabana fire in , “everything was ready for the holidays, it’s a disaster”

“It’s a disaster, 17 people unemployed, we had prepared everything for the holidays and now everything is ruined”. Mohamed Louizy, the manager of the Copacabana, finds it hard to believe it. The former employee took over the establishment a little over a year ago, and is saddened, “we were in full development, we worked really well and unfortunately, in addition, during the holiday season, it was a catastrophe that fell from the sky. Everything was decorated, the room was decorated, the purchases were made and unfortunately, the reservations started but unfortunately, now it’s ruined.”

A destroyed establishment, employees on technical unemployment

The damage is very significantthere is no more roof and only the walls of the discotheque are still standing, “the establishment was destroyed” confirms Captain Dombec, head of the rescue center. “Around thirty firefighters intervened last night, the risk of spread was eliminated and this morning surveillance was lifted.” The police had to close this Thursday morning and prohibit access to the premises, as a security measure. The investigation begins and no leads are ruled out, including the criminal lead.

The only dance venue for young people in and around Beaune

On site Pierre Bolze, the 1st deputy mayor of Beaune, is there this Thursday morning. He also noted the damage which was very significant. “It’s a disaster because it’s the only dance venue for young people here in Beaune and for a good part of the Region.” An elected official who came to support the manager, “my first thoughts are with the owner and the 17 employees, there are no victims but I am really thinking of the buyer and the former boss who we know well. I want to assure them of the solidarity of the city of Beaune We will be there to support them.”

The former boss is Bernard Salvat, he is there too, “I’m shocked, it’s a part of my life that has been destroyed, everything stops suddenly after 18 years of Copacabana, we are devastated.” He transferred this establishment to one of his employees a year and a half ago and has been with him since then as an employee, to ensure the transfer.

“The establishment has existed for 18 years, we are going to rebuild!”

Despite a trying night, the owner of the establishment affirms, “we are going to rebuild”Mohamed Louizy is in contact with his insurance, “There will surely be technical unemployment for some, but there is no reason for us to be condemned. Here we had 200 to 250 people every weekend who came to dance, we keep hope, we will leave again!” confides the boss.
