Very annoyed by the attitude of PSG supporters who did not hesitate to go down to Neymar’s house to insult him before his departure from the capital club, Jérôme Rothen believes that the Brazilian striker also has his share responsibility in this divorce. And the former PSG left winger opened up about this on RMC Sport.
Recruited with fanfare by the PSG for €222M in 2017, Neymar however, experienced a much more complicated separation six years later with Parisian supporters. The Brazilian striker, who failed to reach the heights of world football in the jersey of the capital club, ended up irritating part of the public, and some “supporters” even went to his home to threaten and insult him, shortly before Neymar does not leave PSG. An episode that the former player of FC Barcelona condemned in an interview given to RMC Sport Sunday, but its release was not necessarily unanimous.
Rothen’s rant
In his show Rothen ignites, Jerome Rothen condemned these excesses against Neymar : « He spent six years at PSG, he made almost 200 matches, it’s incredible, more than 100 goals, there are 70 or 80 assists, he did the job. That’s why I join him, maybe he didn’t understand the ending, because it was more of a hassle than anything else. I’m talking to you about the end with the supporters at the Parc des Princes, not at his place because for me they’re stupid. When you come to your house, you didn’t ask anything, insult him or threaten him, where are we going? We’re talking about football. That you are not happy with the player’s investment, that he is still injured, the lifestyle, this or that, that you are fed up with the image of PSG being tarnished by stars who do not identify themselves not at the club, no worries », Estimates the former player of the PSG.
“Neymar is also responsible
Despite everything, it does not conceal the responsibility of Neymar in the end of the complicated story with the PSG : « But within the club grounds. Neymar is also responsible, as we saw last year, as soon as the match was over, Neymar and Messi went straight back to the locker room, they didn’t even go to greet the supporters. So there is also a step to take, and there he is responsible. I regret that he gave this image of the last year, because the other five years, every time he was on the field, he made you get up out of your seat », continues Jerome Rothen.
