A fanfare debut
Jérôme Commandeur knew very early on that he wanted to make others laugh. A big fan of Pierre Dac, his comedic vocation, according to him, became apparent to him straight out of school, by watching the comedians he admired go on stage. “I went four or five times to attend their shows in Paris, I took a place in the henhouse and I had the impression of being in their living room. At 18, the desire to do the same more than tickled me”.
To get started, Commandeur goes through the show’s benches Star Seedsin which he tested his first sketches, and quickly made a name for himself. “What’s funny is that I really got there, with the flower in the gun” he remembers. “I remember, I wrote my texts in the afternoon in the dressing rooms for the evening. I found it nice”. On screen, he is noted for his successful imitations, like that of the show Cooking with Maïté. The machine is launched.
A jack of all trades
In addition to several television shows –L’Hypershow on Canal, Bring the guest in alongside Michel Drucker- and his first steps on stage with the show Commander is discreetthe actor also goes on the airwaves. “I started on the radio because it was the only way to get my jokes heard, it was before the days of social networksx” he confides.
Quickly, the doors of the cinema opened to him. After small roles in Welcome to the Ch’tis or Les TuchesJérôme Commandeur landed more substantial roles alongside Michaël Youn, then Dany Boon. In 2016, he even directed his own film, My family already adores youbefore joining the cast ofAsterix and Obelix last year. However, the actor does not abandon the stage, his first passion, and continues to write and perform his shows throughout France, such as Very gentlya one-man show which earned him a Molières nomination in 2018. When he is finally chosen to host the 42nd Césars ceremony, one thing is obvious: Jérôme Commandeur can do anything.
Back to its beginnings
With his new series The magical worlds of Jérôme Commandeurthe actor returns to his first love: television. The one who describes himself as a child of TV pays homage to several decades of the universe which rocked him and in which he made his beginnings. “I go there regularly as a guest, but I wanted the idea of the meeting” he explains. “I liked the idea of having a small recurrence, and for people to say, hey, it’s coming back next week”
Above all, Jérôme Commandeur returns to the imitation of his beginnings: we can thus find there a certain imitation of Maïté which is not without echoing his time with Star Seeds… With, this time, a few more prosthetics, wigs and glitter. The circle is closed.
