We learned in the morning that Habib Beye would be up for the idea of joining FC Nantes as a coach. If he remains behind Sergio Conceiçao in the hierarchy of leaders, the more the days pass, the more the latter seems to position himself as a plausible option. But who is Habib Beye?
A connoisseur of Ligue 1
Former professional footballer, Habib Beye has more than made his mark in the French championship. If he never participated as a coach, he has almost 300 matches as a player. Indeed, he who played under the colors of RC Strasbourg or OM from 1998 to 2007 is very familiar with our domestic championship.
Additionally, he became a sports analyst after his career. If he commented a lot on Premier League matches, because he spent several years in England (2007-2012), he also analyzed and commented on Ligue 1. He appeared in various shows such as l’After Foot on RMC with Daniel Riolo, or on Canal + for the Canal Sports Club.
An inexperienced trainer
A young 47-year-old coach, Habib Beye has so far only known one club during his career. This is obviously Red Star FC, which he left last summer in order to find a more interesting challenge. After 3 years in the Ile-de-France club, the former OM player aimed higher, despite a move up to Ligue 2.
However, with 3 years of coaching under my belt, the sample is not non-existent. He, who replaced Vincent Bordot at the start of the 2021/22 season, has more than proven himself in the National. After a mixed first season where he guided his players to 11th place, he will quickly do better.
Indeed, in the 2022/23 season he took his players to the podium of the 3rd level of French football. However, only the first two teams moved up to Ligue 2. Following this failure, he remobilized his troops and took them to the National title last season.
He, who advocates an offensive game with intense pressing, has more than proven his value in the lower echelons of French football. But is that enough for a Ligue 1 club? To be continued…
