Mons station, this megalomaniac delirium

To ask the question is to answer it… But even beyond the megalomaniacal delirium, there is the saga of the construction site and its cost. What was originally only the project of a pedestrian bridge supposed to connect the historic center to the new commercial center of Grands Prés, without notice metamorphosed into what we know today, passing the bill from 37 million euros to today 480 million euros, almost 13 times more!

The Court of Auditors noted the multiple obstacles and other shortcomings which punctuated the management of the works, disrupted in particular by the succession of construction companies. However, neither the Justice system nor the political world considered it necessary to investigate this matter, which will remain in the collective memory as one of the most blatant wastes of public money in recent years. Is this the result of a succession of bad luck, shortcomings and illegalities? Doubts will remain. The SNCB will inaugurate the building in a few weeks, probably taking care, out of decency, not to put too much pomp into it. Because today, the railway company assures us, as beautiful as the work is, it is the fruit of a mistake, that of another time. A brand new station, certainly, but which already belongs to the past.
