Bruno Retailleau “wishes” to remain Minister of the Interior, but believes that “the conditions are not met”

Invited on BFMTV this Wednesday, the resigning Minister of the Interior set his “red lines” to remain at Place Beauvau.

Will Bruno Retailleau be part of François Bayrou’s government? “As I speak to you, I don’t know.”he confided on BFMTV. Does he want to stay at Place Beauvau where he managed to make his mark? “I wish it, if I have the means”he clarified. The resigning Minister of the Interior, who claims to speak on behalf of the Republicans, believes that “the conditions are not met” so that he and his political family participate in the next government. The ball is now in François Bayrou’s court, with whom he must speak in the morning. “He knows that by choosing to bring me into government, he is choosing a style, convictions and a line. I’m not deceiving anyone about the merchandise.underlined the Vendéen.

Bruno Retailleau returned to his appointment last September in the government of Michel Barnier. He claims to have made a “promise” : “Don’t betray me and don’t deceive the French.” In other words, the first cop in is not “not ready to sell his ideas at any price”although it is not “sectarian”. If he remained in government, could he do without the new immigration law that he is calling for? “I don’t need a law, I’m not a fetishist. I need legislative measures”he tempered, recalling that these measures can also come from parliamentarians.

“These are my red lines”

However, to remain in government, the resigning Minister of the Interior wants to have the assurance of being able to move forward on his priorities: restriction of land rights in Mayotte, reinstatement of the offense of illegal residence, extension of the period of administrative detention … “These are my red lines”he said. To justify his voluntarism, Bruno Retailleau does not intend to rely on a parliamentary majority but on the “national majority”in reference to the expression of General de Gaulle. “The firm measures that I have proposed are supported overwhelmingly by the French on the right, but also by the French on the left”he considers.
