The conditions “are not met for the moment” for LR to enter the government, said the resigning Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau on BFMTV-RMC this Wednesday morning. “We will try to see in the coming days if a certain number of obstacles are removed,” he adds, while he is due to meet Prime Minister François Bayrou in the morning.
He mainly calls for guarantees on security and migration control. “It is obvious that if this government goes to the left while a majority of French people are on the right (…) that would be a shame,” he says.
Asked about remaining in government, Bruno Retailleau remains undecided. “I would like to stay if I am given the means, I have started a job and I want to complete it,” he declares, “I will only be able to stay in the government if I am able to carry out the policy that the majority of French people want, that is to say to restore authority, firmness, public order, both in the streets and at our borders.
Laurent Wauquiez had already expressed reservations about the party’s participation in government, declaring that it was “not certain”. Tuesday, the boss of the LR thus requested a new meeting with François Bayrou, stressing that there was still “too much vagueness” on the Prime Minister’s project, “we need more details”.
