“I invented a new color by mixing blue and yellow. It’ll be called bleuaune,” Reese, Malcolm’s older brother, once said.
It is nostalgia alert this Saturday, December 14, 2024. The very popular series Malcolm will make its comeback, 18 years after the first broadcast of episode 22 of season 7 (episode 151).
It is Disney +which obviously has the rights to the showwho made the announcement this morning on his X account (formerly Twitter).
“What a pleasure to be able to shout at this kid again,” jokes, in one of the four videos, Jane Kaczmarek, who plays Lois, the mother of this family of 6, then 7, living in the American suburbs.
Malcolm, Hal, Lois… And even the creator
For the moment, very little information has filtered out regarding this revival. We do not know when the four episodes ordered by the platform will be released.
As we can see in the Disney + videos, Lois, but also Hal (Bryan Cranston), and Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) will be back for these special episodes. The American media Variety indicates that Linwood Boomer, the creator of the series, will indeed be there.
No news, however, from Reese (Justin Berfield), Francis (Christopher Kennedy Masterson) or Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan).
We don't know much about the French version either, but we can already be sure that the voices of Lois and Hal will be different.
The one who lent her voice to Lois, Marion Game (the unforgettable Huguette in Household scenesamong others), died in March 2023. For his part, Jean-Louis Faure, who brilliantly interpreted Hal's incredible escapades, died in March 2022.
Malcolm, a truly gifted gifted person
As a reminder, the series highlights Malcolm, a gifted person (really very gifted), who has difficulty getting used to his environment. Instead, he spends his time with his brothers Francis, Reese and Dewey (then Jamie) doing mischief and annoying their mother or father, who has a hard time with authority.
But Malcolm is much more than that. It’s a series in which the “average” human being recognizes himself. The family does not roll in gold, but does everything to ensure that the children have everything they need.
And if Lois seems so mean, it's only because she has very big ambitions for her sons. She hopes, for example, that Malcolm will be president. As a result, these four episodes ordered by the platform will necessarily have to answer this question.
Same: the last scene in which we see Lois and Hal shows them with a positive pregnancy test. In the end, did the family of 7 become a family of 8?
Malcolm is clearly a cult series with passages, even episodes that have remained in the annals. The one in which Dewey compares humanity to an anthill, and provides a metaphor worthy of a philosophy course… The one where Hal develops a passion for fast walking is also in many memories.
And what about this episode in which the whole family is invited to a birthday and where the four children proudly defend the honor of their mother, hated by her in-laws.
Finally, and this one, we have to talk about it. It is to the Malcolm series, and more precisely to Dewey, that we owe the phrase “I didn't expect anything, but I'm still disappointed”.
“I’m curious about this family. What has happened to them since then? Where are they ? What are the children doing? They are adults now,” explained Bryan Cranston to the media GQ in June 2023. We wonder it too, and we can't wait to find out.
