Morocco recovers the body of player Abdellatif Akhrif, held for 4 months in Algeria – Telquel.ma

Selon Al3omkthe Ittihad player from Tangier had tragically disappeared at sea on July 6, 2024, during a pleasure boat trip near Restinga beach, in the M’diq region. This excursion ended in tragedy when the boat capsized, leading to the drowning of Abdellatif Akhrif and his friend Salman Harraq, while three other passengers were rescued.

More than a month after the incident, on August 8, 2024, a body was found on the coast of Cap Falcon, near Oran in Algeria. Although the family initially identified the player by his clothing and other details, a DNA sample was sent to Algerian authorities to confirm the identity of the remains.

After a long wait, a report sent by the Algerian consulate in Casablanca, at the end of November 2024, finally validated the hypothesis that the body was indeed that of the Moroccan player.

The administrative procedures for repatriation also involved the Moroccan consulate in Oran, which requested a death certificate and burial authorization. However, these documents were ultimately not deemed necessary, allowing procedures to be accelerated.
