While Emmanuel Macron is considering appointing the Renaissance vice-president of the National Assembly, from the PS, to Matignon, his adversaries are leading a rebellion behind the scenes to prevent this scenario from materializing.
The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron had promised to appoint a new head of government on Thursday December 12, 2024. The name of Roland Lescure seems to be rising to the surface. Problem: this choice would be far from achieving consensus neither in the camp of the Macronists, nor that of the Republicans (LR), according to information from Le Figaro.
Roland Lescure was received on Wednesday December 11 at the Élysée by Emmanuel Macron. A visit which aroused fears of seeing Vice-President Renaissance of the National Assembly be appointed head of government.
A former leftist, historical walker… who upsets Macronists and LR
Coming from the left, Roland Lescure was a Walker from the start. Former Minister of Industry, he is currently a Renaissance deputy for French people in North America. He had recently stated that he did not necessarily covet the position of Prime Minister. However, his political opponents do not intend to let the Roland Lescure hypothesis become reality.
This Thursday, December 12, the revolt increased. Thus, the National Rally did not fail to react on social networks. The LR, officials of the Democratic Movement (MoDem) and even the right wing of the Macronist camp have also expressed doubts about the possibility of this appointment, reports the daily.
Why so much distrust?
For members of MoDem, this appointment could even mark a break with the presidential camp: “If the president appoints Lescure, it’s a break”says a senior member of the Democratic Movement, cited by Le Figaro. Roland Lescure originally came from the left. He maintains good relations with the communist Fabien Roussel, with François Ruffin but also with Xavier Bertrand (LR). It also appears to be a realistic option for rallying the non-LFI left with the rest of the common base. Which would seem to go in the direction of the negotiations and discussions carried out by Emmanuel Macron and the political forces with the aim of constituting a government which would not be censored. To be continued…
