Francesco Farioli has made a number of changes to the basic setup of Ajax for the home game against Lazio in the Europa League. The Italian coach has chosen Mika Godts, Jordan Henderson, Devyne Rensch and Brian Brobbey, among others. Steven Berghuis also starts from the beginning. The match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA starts at 9 p.m.

Naturally, Remko Pasveer is preferred under the bar at Ajax. The now 41-year-old goalkeeper is keeping his fellow goalkeepers Diant Ramaj and Jay Gorter behind him this season. Pasveer will once again hope to keep his goal clear against Lazio. That didn’t work out in the last four matches. The fact that Ajax has not yet conceded any goals in its own stadium in the Europa League this season offers some guidance.

Rensch returns to the defense of the Amsterdam team after a knee injury suffered against NEC, which kept him on the side against FC Utrecht and AZ. The 21-year-old defender and Jorrel Hato will play as right and left back respectively. At the heart of the defense there is room for the familiar duo: Josip Sutalo and Youri Baas.

Rensch dropped out in the first half against NEC. He was then replaced by Anton Gaaei.

Henderson returns to Ajax base

In midfield we see Henderson return to the starting line-up. The Englishman was not armpit fresh when he visited AZ last Sunday and therefore remained on the bench for ninety minutes. The Englishman replaces Branco van den Boomen as the most controlling midfielder. Steven Berghuis and Kenneth Taylor are lined up in front of him. The former is in Ajax’s starting line-up, just like against AZ.

There are also some changes taking place in Ajax’s forward line against the Italian club. Compared to the match in Alkmaar, Bertrand Traoré and Brobbey return to the starting eleven. The pair is therefore preferred to Steven Berghuis (in midfield) and Wout Weghorst, who played against AZ from the start. Furthermore, Mika Godts is positioned on the left flank. The Belgian plays instead of Chuba Akpom.

Ajax line-up:

feather key; Rensch, Sutalo, Baas, Hato; Henderson, Berghuis, Taylor; Traore, Brobbey, Godts.
