Kerala is bracing for heavy rain across most districts due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an Orange alert in Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur, indicating very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm.
A yellow alert has been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, signifying heavy rainfall heavy rainfall between 64.5 to 115.5 mm. The low-pressure area, which originated in the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to reach the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, six districts—Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur—are expecting heavy rainfall on Friday.
The met department has also warned of squally weather conditions along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast until December 14. Wind speeds are expected to reach 35-45 kmph, with gusts up to 55 kmph. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.
