In a landmark decision for animal welfare, two major corporations, Ferrero International and Agropur Cooperative, have pledged to end their involvement in harmful animal testing. This change comes after discussions with PETA, which advocates for cruelty-free practices in the food and beverage industry.

Ferrero, known for iconic brands like Nutella and Tic Tac, and Agropur, a North American dairy leader, signed PETA’s Eat Without Experiments pledge. This agreement ensures they will not conduct, fund, or allow animal testing unless required by law.

The commitment marks a significant shift for both companies, which had previously supported animal experiments. Ferrero’s subsidiary had been involved in studies where mice were force-fed cholesterol substances and killed for analysis. Agropur participated in even more invasive procedures, funding experiments that inflicted severe health issues on rats, including obesity and hypertension, followed by invasive testing that ended their lives.

PETA’s Eat Without Experiments initiative helps companies eliminate these practices, often performed to make unsubstantiated marketing claims about products. By joining the program, Ferrero and Agropur are setting a compassionate example for the industry.
