How much did Asamoah Gyan earn as the eighth highest-paid footballer in the world?
In 2010, Sunderland paid over €15 million to Rennes for the emerging talent Asamoah Gyan, who had previously played for Liberty Professionals, Udinese, and Modena. He scored 10 goals in 31 appearances during his first season with the Black Cats, but his career then began to wane.
From 2011 to 2015, he played for Al Ain, where he earned €193,000 per week, three times more than in the Premier League, and scored 128 goals in 123 matches in the United Arab Emirates.
During his time in the UAE, he was warned about his “unethical hairstyle.”
In 2015, he decided to change his fortunes and moved to Shanghai SIPG, managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, which made the former Sunderland player the eighth highest-paid footballer in the world with a weekly salary of €274,000 (earning more than stars like Neymar (€305,118), Luis Suárez (€305,118), and Gareth Bale (€277,380)).

In 2018, after disputes with his wife Gifty (whom he accused of infidelity and sought to annul their marriage) and refusing to speak to his three children until DNA tests confirmed his paternity, he confessed to ‘GhanaWeb’ that his once vast fortune had dwindled to just €724.
The footballer, who was then in a relationship with influencer Nina Atalah, even presented bank statements from Turkey to prove his claims and alleged that his then-club, Kayserispor, had not paid him for months.
In 2023, a court ruled that Asamoah Gyan was the biological father of the three children and ordered him to pay a substantial compensation (including a house in the UK, a four-bedroom house in Accra, a BMW, an Infiniti car, and a gas station) to his wife Gifty and her family.

Since his financial ruin confession, it’s unclear how much money Asamoah Gyan has as he lives in a mansion in Weija (Accra) known as La Basílica de Baby Jet, where he has been seen with luxury goods.
Asamoah Gyan, who has dipped his toes into politics, has diversified his investments as a boxing promoter, singer, founder of Baby Jet airline, tennis player, philanthropist, mineral water advocate, rice and noodle mogul (Mama Vits Noodles and Rice), bus magnate, and gas station owner.
“I have not been fair to the youth and people of Ghana. I will continue my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own way. Nothing political,” stated the former footballer, who is now focused on his Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
