The Union coach has never won against VfB Stuttgart. That should change on Friday evening. Not the only highlight on the 13th Bundesliga matchday
VfB Stuttgart – Union Berlin
Friday, 8.30 p.m. / DAZN
VfB recently took ample revenge for the defeat in the relegation game in 2019 – with three wins in a row, all without conceding a goal. In Stuttgart the balance is balanced (1-2-1). VfB have scored in their last 29 home games and are unbeaten in four games on Fridays. Union has been winless in five games and has an away goal average of 0.5. Coach Bo Svensson never won against VfB Stuttgart (0-2-4).
Bayer Leverkusen – FC St. Pauli
Is everything clear by the break? Bayer scored the most goals in the first half, Pauli the fewest. In addition, the champions have strengthened again: ten games unbeaten, even 13 against newly promoted teams. Hamburg won two of their three wins this season away from home. The record in the Bundesliga is surprisingly even (5-4-5), but St. Pauli never won in Leverkusen (4-3-0). A maximum of four goals were scored in this duel.
Bayern Munich – 1. FC Heidenheim
The game guarantees a goal spectacle. The first competitive game, in the cup in 2019, ended 5:4. Last year, Bayern won 4-2 at home and lost 2-3 away. The team with the most wins meets the one with the fewest draws. Bayern are still unbeaten in the league, Kompany would be only the second new FCB coach who has not lost after 13 league games. Heidenheim is without a win in seven games and has suffered four defeats recently – each a club record in the upper house.
Eintracht Frankfurt – FC Augsburg
Against weak Augsburg away from home (only one point), Eintracht's 700th Bundesliga defeat is not exactly up in the air. After all, the second-place team is still unbeaten at home – and generally in the league for six games. For the first time since March 2019, Eintracht could keep a clean sheet for the third time in a row. Augsburg last won in Frankfurt (5-4-3) five years ago.
VfL Bochum – Werder Bremen
VfL remained winless in eight games against Werder, and even ten at home – since a 2-0 win on September 8, 1998. There has never been a longer streak for VfL against a club in the Bundesliga. The overall record: 10-16-44! Werder also won almost every other game in Bochum (9-9-17), there were no more SVW victories anywhere. VfL are last and would equal the club record from 1992/93 with their 15th game without a win, but coach Dieter Hecking celebrated his most Bundesliga wins against Werder (twelve).
Holstein Kiel – RB Leipzig
Bundesliga pairing 975 only had predecessors at lower league level. In the 3rd league and the regional league they met six times, without compromise (2-0-4). The Kiel team lost five of the first six home games in their Bundesliga history, and RB recently suffered two defeats away from home. It is not unlikely that none will be added. Because RB has never lost against promoted teams in 33 games.
Mönchengladbach – Borussia Dortmund
There has not been a draw in the Borussia derby since February 2013 (1:1) – 22 games had a winner, mostly BVB, who won four of the last five duels. The hosts still have a plus in Mönchengladbach (21-16-15), but the record result in Bundesliga history from 1978 (12-0, albeit in Düsseldorf) remains outstanding. Gladbach's home strength (last four wins) meets Dortmund's serious away weakness (four defeats, seven no wins).
VfL Wolfsburg – Mainz 05
Sunday, 3:30 p.m. / DAZN
Both are on the rise. For the first time under coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, VfL won four competitive games in a row. Mainz are unbeaten in five games and are about to extend the club record of away games without defeat (previously nine). If national player Jonathan Burkardt scores a goal, he will overtake teammate Karim Onisiwo (33 goals) as FSV's record goalscorer in the Bundesliga. In Wolfsburg (8-5-5), VfL won four of the last six duels with FSV, but in May it was 1:3.
TSG Hoffenheim – SC Freiburg
On September 1, 2018, TSG won this duel (3-1), after which they suffered four defeats and one draw at home. This left the home balance negative (3-6-5). In general, TSG is six competitive games without a win against Freiburg. This season their home record is balanced (3-0-3) and goalkeeper Oliver Baumann has not had a clean sheet in Sinsheim for 26 games. This is the second longest such streak of conceding goals in league history. The SCF is without a win in four competitive games away from home.
