Patrick Lefevere gives a surprisingly positive update about Evenepoel: “Fractures? Hopefully he will be back on the bike in 2 weeks”
No fractures at Remco Evenepoel after all? Although his team Soudal-Quick Step previously communicated that the rider had suffered fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade and right hand in his fall, the team manager qualified that news with a new update: “It is a dislocated shoulder,” it sounds.
Then some hopeful news about Remco Evenepoel?
Just before we want to interview his team manager Patrick Lefevere, he receives a message with a medical update about his teammate.
It was previously communicated by his team Soudal – Quick Step that Evenepoel had suffered fractures to his rib, right shoulder blade and right hand. But Lefevere now says that they have made other findings in Herentals hospital.
“I just received a message from our doctor on site and he told me it is a dislocated collarbone,” he corrects the previous communication. “The first messages were worse, but this is the last update I received.”
“They are going to put his joint back together tonight, tomorrow he can go home and they tell me that in two weeks he will hopefully have recovered and could be on the bike.”
“In any case, we should not panic in view of his goals. It is never ideal, but if this has to happen, it would be better now than in three months.”
Will we file a complaint? It’s too early for that.
Patrick Lefevere
And so the verdict would not be too bad for Evenepoel and the Lefevere team – who had an eventful day after all.
“I was in my office this morning with someone from the newspaper and he suddenly told me that Remco had fallen,” Lefevere continues his story.
“I immediately walked downstairs to the warehouse and his faithful caregiver (David Geeroms, ed.) was there. He had also just received a message from someone in Oetingen who told him what had happened.”
“Would we file a complaint? It’s too early for that,” Lefevere nods.
