Nearly 65% of strikers are expected in primary schools on Thursday, December 5, according to SNUIPP, the majority union. According to information from RTL, at least 50% of strikers are expected in middle and high schools. However, this number could be higher, because in secondary education, strikers are not required to declare themselves in advance, unlike in primary education.
A one-day strike for public sector employees is planned for Thursday, December 5, at the call of the unions. Several dozen rallies are planned in France, notably in Paris, where the meeting is held near the Ministry of the Economy and Finance at the start of the afternoon. The procession must then reach Place d’Italie.
According to the Unsa website, one of the unions, around fifty gatherings have been recorded in France. At the end of October, the government announced a plan to combat absenteeism among civil servants, which should generate 1.2 billion euros in savings. Relations with the Minister of the Civil Service, Guillaume Kasbarian, gradually became strained, before leading to a breakdown in social dialogue.
The unions demand in particular that the minister renounce three measures which crystallize the anger: the passage of one to three days of waiting for sick civil servants, the reduction from 100% to 90% of remuneration in the event of sick leave, and the non-renewal of the payment of a bonus to support purchasing power.
