Another difficult day ahead for Lyon motorists. Taxi drivers meeting this Monday, December 2 on Place Bellecour in Lyon voted to renew their mobilization for this Tuesday, BFM Lyon learned from professional spokespersons.
Lyon motorists will once again suffer from poor traffic conditions after a first day marked by severe disruptions on many sections of the metropolis. The same blockade points will be put in place from 6 a.m. on the highways but also in front of Lyon hospitals.
Fireworks used
There were several hundred of them who reached the center of Lyon to participate in the general assembly where the continuation of the movement was decided at the beginning of the evening. Protesters used fireworks to make their anger heard. Some will even sleep there this evening.
During the night, nearly 300 taxi drivers from Marseille must join their colleagues from the Avergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Together, some will take the road to Paris to bring their demands to the capital.
These drivers are protesting against the new Health Insurance agreement on pricing for transporting sick people to hospital. They fear a drying up of this source of income and the eventual disappearance of 40,000 drivers throughout France.
“Today we have direct control over the patient population and tomorrow with this new agreement and the arrival of the platforms, we will only be intermediaries and inevitably, we will be impacted,” explains a driver at the microphone of BFM Lyon.
“The idea with these platforms is to create a patient waiting room. This will generate waiting for the patient and above all, a drop in turnover which is clear. Me tomorrow if I take eight patients, my colleague how many will he take? There will not be enough for everyone, the long-term goal is to oust us from transporting seated patients,” he assures.
