The opposition councilor for Lucca Futura leaves her position: «I succeeded as long as I was able to take advantage of parental leave, then no longer»
He can't reconcile them political commitments with professional and motherly ones. And so, albeit reluctantly, he resigns his irrevocable resignation as councilor municipal.
To make this decision a Lucca was Cecilia Lorenzoni39 years old, member of the centre-left opposition within the Lucca Futura civic listfrom whose ranks she was elected in June 2022.
It is she who explains the reasons for her gesture, “the fruit of long reflection” she says in one letter addressed to the mayor Mario Pardinito the President of the City Council Enrico Torrini and to all his colleagues. «It is now evident – writes Lorenzoni – that I am unable to participate in the meetings of the Council, nor in the work of the commission of which I am a member, nor due to my work commitments in the legal office of the company for which I work in Florence. And both, in the evening, for the role of mother with two small children and a partner who is often away on work shifts.”
Lorenzoni – whose place will be taken by Elena Piantanida – says she has more or less managed to make everything fit until he was able to take parental leavebut that after returning to the office the time available has run out. A lack that led the now former minority councilor to develop the belief that in this way the role of director cannot be adequately filled.
But it shines through in his words the bitterness for the decision born from «a time – we read again in the resignation letter – in which many of the couples who decide to have or adopt children do so late and in which everyone, even women, work (and a lot), arriving to have children with full-time jobs that see them busy all day.”
Lorenzoni then also focuses on the role of grandparentswhich compared to the past can no longer be the resource on which the organization of a family is based. And this is why he invites everyone to ideally put themselves in the shoes of those who have little free time, but who not only for this reason can be assumed to be less interested than others in contributing to collective ideas.
She showed up almost two and a half years ago – it was July 2022 – at the opening council meeting of the Pardini administration, bringing her firstborn with her into the chamber «but still – she closes – the time for a municipal nursery is not ripe. Yet, it is significant that the children's municipal council was held just a few days ago. It is a sign that the institutions are open to listening to new ideas, committing themselves to always do better.”
