Bus accident leaves at least two dead and five injured “in a state of emergency”at Porté-Puymorens, a ski resort located two hours drive from Toulouse and Perpignan, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, announced the prefecture on Sunday November 30, confirming information from The Independent. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. on the RN 320, a mountainous road between the Pyrénées-Orientales, Ariège, Andorra and Spain. Che bus arriving from Spain and carrying around forty people hit the side of a cliff and rolled over.
“The results are subject to change,” the prefecture told AFP. The mayor of the town, Jean-Philippe Augé, confirmed with L'Indépendant “a very serious accident”.
The white plan was activated and reinforcements were requested from Ariège, Aude and the principality of Andorra. Around 120 firefighters are involved, to which must be added the police. Ground rescue services are supported by three helicopters which rotate to transport victims. National road 320 is currently cut in both directions, for around fifteen kilometers between Ariège and the Pyrénées-Orientales.
